My mom and my step-dad, Donyvan, live in southern California. My sister, Jessica, and I live in Louisville, KY. Getting together is so hard. We've been to California a number of times and they love to visit Kentucky, but we decided that this year we would need a vacation together instead of just visiting each other.
After much deliberation, we decided on Las Vegas. My parents had been there a couple of times and were convinced Jessica and I would enjoy it.
They got us a condo at Holiday Inn Club Vacations. It was perfect for us. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a full kitchen and perfect sized living room. We were so comfortable and loved being able to make ourselves breakfast each morning.
My parents drove over from California on Thursday and picked us up from the airport. From there we headed to the condo. Then we decided to walk to the strip so Jessica and I could see the Strip lights for the first time. We walked through the promenade shops outside of The Linq. Then we ate dinner at CHAYO, a cool cantina with some yummy drinks.
On Friday, we decided to take our time in the condo and make some breakfast, and then headed out to The Strip. It was a little bit busier than it was the night before. We meandered through the crowds to check out The Venetian and The Palazzo. These were our favorites and we even took a ride on a gondola through the canal in the shopping area. This was really fun. It seems like a simple tourist thing to do, but we all really enjoyed it. We had pizza and then continued on our trek along The Strip. Later that night we went down to Freemont St so we could see the older casinos and the light show they play over the street.
Saturday we decided to try out the monorail. If you are wanting to save your feet, this is the way to go. We were so glad we tried it out and with the all-day pass we could just go back and forth all day. We went through the MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, and others. After hanging out in the condo that afternoon for a bit, playing games, we got ready and headed out to the MGM Grand to see KA by Cirque de Soleil. The show was so good. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take photos, so I only got a couple of the stage beforehand. After the show, we had a late dinner then we did a bit more sightseeing before we headed back to the condo for our last night.
Jessica and I went back to California the next day with our parents so that we could see our grandma for a bit before we came back home.
We had a great time in Las Vegas and thoroughly enjoyed our family time. If you plan a trip out there, I recommend walking through a lot of the casinos and hotels. Unfortunately, the casino areas are smoky, so be aware of that if you are sensitive to it. But the hotels are such a sight to see. Each one has its own unique décor, and even shopping areas. If you love to shop, you will be in heaven. Some of the "touristy" things are really worth it, like a show, a gondola ride, or being involved in a group of street performers' show.
